See you tonight!

We’re looking forward to our 25h contest tonight. It’s not too lat to carve something and bring it over. We will take entries from 4:30 until it gets dark enough to judge… judging will probably start around 6:30.

See the poster below and see you tonight!

John

25th Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest

The 25th Bridgehampton Lions Carving Contest will be held  at the Bridgehampton Community House on  Monday, October 30th starting @5pm. If you’re not coming for the puppet show then definitely get there well before it’s dark. If your not familiar with the event, there’s no actual carving going on at the event, you have to spend the weekend doing that at home.

Host a carving party the weekend before – bring more entries! Stat tuned for details on a new prize given for the best images of your carving party…

The poster featuring this years themes will be posted here by end of this week. Posters will be on the street next week.

We changed things a little last year, here’s a reminder – 12 and under freestyle is now 13 and under. We removed the all ages freestyle category and will award 3 prizes for Master Blade. Any entry qualifies for the Master Blade 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place awards – If you, enter in any of the themed categories, enter in the 13 and under freestyle, or set up on the event grounds but outside of a category, you will be considered for the Master Blade prizes.

Remember, it’s FREE to enter and FREE to see but you can’t win unless you bring a carved pumpkin or squash-like life form. Also, many tend to forget about the categories… if you carve to fit a category you will be way more likely to win… pick your favorite or if you can’t decide carve 3, you can enter in up to 3 categories! Sometimes a category has just a few entries so there may be a guaranteed win in your future if you make the effort.

Carving Contest Postponed until Tomorrow – Tue the 25th!

Unfortunately, due to persistent rain and possible thunderstorms for the event we will hold the contest tomorrow – Tuesday, October 25th. Same time and details.

Your pumpkins should hold up an extra day if already carved and, for some, it’s more time to carve or a second chance!

Tips to preserve carvings: Wet down a clean old towel and drape it over your piece, especially over the carved areas. Keep it wet/damp until the event. Another great way to bring a pumpkin back to life is to soak it underwater for several hours. It actually gets stronger on the first soak. I have done this 2-3 times for a week until it starts to rot. Soaking over night in a big bucket or garbage bin is best. Just put some weights on or in it to keep it sumberged.

See you Tuesday evening!

Event Notice!

Great day to stay home and carve pumpkins!

We are keeping an eye on the weather for tomorrow – Monday the 24th. We hope to continue as planned. You can bring your carved pumpkins starting at 5pm, judging will start around dark. Keep an umbrella in the car just in case!

If rain prevents us from holding the event we will hold it the next day, Tuesday the 25th.

If we postpone we won’t know until tomorrow and if that happens we will post a message on this site and at the event grounds… the Bridgehampton Community House.

Hopefully see you tomorrow!

Pumpkin Carving Contest 2022!

The Bridgehampton Lions Carving Contest will be held on  Monday, October 24th starting @5pm. If you’re not coming for the puppet show then definitely get there well before it’s dark and if your not familiar with the event, there’s no actual carving going on at the event, you have to spend the weekend doing that!

This is our 24th contest with 7 new themed categories – please see  the current poster below.

12 and under freestyle is now 13 and under.

We’ve noticed folks trying to use glow sticks to illuminate their pumpkins but they don’t give off enough light and the judging happens in the dark so if you are planning to use glow sticks plan to use a few candles too – glow matters.

Check out the poster below and links to the carving galleries on the left of this site if you need some motivation besides all the prize money… remember it’s FREE to enter and FREE to see but you can’t win unless you bring a carved pumpkin or squash-like life form. Also, many tend to forget about the categories… if you carve to fit a category you will be more likely to win… pick your favorite or if you can’t decide carve 3, you can enter in up to 3 categries! Sometimes a category has just a few entries so there may be a guaranteed win in your future if you make the effort.

Carving Contest 2021

Bridgehampton Lions Carving Contest will be held on  Monday, October 25th starting @5pm! If you’re not coming for the puppet show then definitely get there well before it’s dark and if your not familiar with the event, there’s no actual carving going on, you have to spend the weekend doing that.

Coming off the heals of our 22nd event we are introducing a whopping 8  new themed categories – see poster below.

We also added an additional freestyle category for the professionals out there – Master Blade! This year we are, not only engraving the name of the winner we are handing them $500! Winner take all but you have to be in it to win it!

We’ve recently noticed folks trying to use glow sticks to illuminate their pumpkins but they don’t give off enough light and the judging happens in the dark so if you are planning to use glow sticks plan to use a few candles too.

Check out the poster below and links to the carving galleries on the left of this site if you need some motivation besides all the prize money… remember it’s FREE to enter and FREE to see but you can’t win the cash unless you bring a carved pumpkin or squash-like life form. Also, many tend to forget about the categories… if you carve to fit a category you will be more likely to win… pick your favorite or if you can’t decide carve 3, you can enter in up to 3 categries! Sometimes a category has just a few entries so there may be a guaranteed win in your future if you make the effort.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!

Well, it was very exciting to watch the Instagram hashtag feed Sunday night when all your entries started coming in. We did not expect all the interesting ideas and story telling in many of the entries. If you have not seen them please go to #icarvedfor_bhlions and look through all the images in each. It’s not the quantity of entries we are used to but the quality of the concepts reminds me of our very first contest 24 years ago. It was a similar cautious turnout with ideas no one had seen before in pumpkin carving – so thank you for braving this new territory with us!

That said, we still love our original community event, and hopefully next year, we will be back – with a few twists!

So you want to know who won but you probably already peaked below.

Congratulations to all the winners! Because all were so interesting we posted them below with the winners. These single images do not do them justice so I would recommend a look at #icarvedfor_bhlions if you haven’t already done so. Winners will be contacted shortly via direct messaging on instagram.

And, we can’t mention winners without mentioning all our dedicated sponsors who supported us, even in these strange times! Without them we would have no prizes or an event for that mater! Please see the list of award and event sponsors below.
